COMMUNICATIONS UNIT

The Communications Unit provides radio communications to support EPAP emergency operations

  • In an emergency, radio communication is necessary because there may be no power, no telephone, no internet. The EPAP Communications Unit provides essential links within Sun Lakes, as well as to City, County, and other necessary emergency resources.
  • Our EPAP radio systems provide two-way radio contact with each District in Sun Lakes, as well as HOA Administration and Security Patrol functions.  This enables EPAP to coordinate an emergency response within Sun Lakes.
  • The EPAP Operations Center (EOC) has complete radio system capability, supporting local GMRS, local and long-distance Ham Radio, emergency messaging Radio (StarLink and WinLink), and other local communications.
  • Our Licensed and experienced radio operators are trained to handle emergency messaging with other radio operators outside of Sun Lakes to connect with Public agencies as needed.  EPAP follows the FEMA Incident Command System concepts, enabling us to work together with all emergency resources as needed.
  • We regularly participate in radio training exercises, drills, community events, and District Radio Checks.
  • We also coordinate using radio with other communities in the Pass area.  Through the resources of the San Gorgonio Pass Amateur Radio Club (SPARC), we participate in area-wide communication networks.
  • Our radio systems are built and operated by Sun Lakes residents.  Our technical staff manages and maintains all emergency radio equipment used in the 23 Districts.
