EPAP BASICS

How the EPAP Plan Works

When an emergency occurs, we in Sun Lakes may need to survive on our own until help arrives. We must prepare in advance. This is the purpose of our EPAP Plan.

The Plan includes emergency programs and procedures for:

  • Preparing for emergencies
  • Responding to emergencies
  • Survival and recovery after emergency event

In addition, our Sun Lakes Emergency Preparedness Organization provides many related functions to respond to and manage emergencies in Sun Lakes. These are listed below.

How EPAP Responds to an Emergency:

  • When an emergency occurs, EPAP activates all of its operations in Sun Lakes, and notifies key District and EOC personnel.
  • Each District has its own District Emergency Plan with Zone Captains to check on residents, an EPAP Coordinator to manage the event, a local District Command Post, medical First-Aid Support Team (FAST), emergency supplies, and two-way radio communications with our EPAP Operations Center. The District EPAP Coordinator is in charge of the District’s emergency response.
  • The EPAP Operations Center (EOC) Manages the emergency within Sun Lakes from a central location. It provides Radio Communications with all Districts, Sun Lakes facilities, and enables emergency communications with outside resources.
An Incident Commander is in charge of managing the event.
  • The EPAP Operations Center provides event status information and instructions via radio to the District EPAP Coordinators.
  • Districts report their status and send messages via radio to the EPAP Operations Center.
